Aggregate Base

Aggregate Base

An aggregate base provides an excellent foundation for synthetic golf greens.

The surface area is covered with clean 20mm stone to a depth of approximately 100mm/4inches providing the drainage and then a vibrating plate is used to compact and consolidate the stone creating the stability. An additional 2 tonne (approximate for 100 square meter green) of aggregate is then spread over the top to create the shape and undulations, filling in any holes and creating the levels where required.

Next, the base is smoothed off, levelled and any imperfections corrected. This is achieved by topping off 6mm of dust spread to a depth of approximately 2 inches. Vibrating plates are used to compact this top layer and continue to smooth off. This continues until a good finish is achieved ready for laying the putting turf.
