European Golf offer a professional installation service but supply-only is also available for DIY enthusiasts. Every step of the installation is documented and you can phone us at any stage of the process for professional advice.
First of all, you should determine where to locate the synthetic golf green at your golf course. After deciding upon the shape and size of putting green, you can order the turf and base from the European Golf sales team.
If you wish to have a target green then also take into consideration the tee line area. Obviously you will need line of site between the teeing area and target green so try to ensure the area is clear of any foliage.
After your turf and materials have arrived on-site, the installation process can begin:
- Use a Turf Stripper to remove the top layer of turf for the required area.
- Spread Teram over the entire surface area. This is a white membrane that blocks weed growth and prevents the stone on top of the teram mixing and contaminating with the soil underneath.
- Cover the surface area with clean 20mm stone to a depth of approximately 100mm/4inches providing the drainage and then a vibrating plate is used to compact and consolidate the stone creating the stability. An additional 2 tonne (approximate for 100 square meter green) of aggregate is then spread over the top to create the shape and undulations, filling in any holes and creating the levels where required.
- Now smooth off, level and correct any imperfections in the base. This is achieved by topping off 6mm to dust spread to a depth of approximately 2 inches. Use the vibrating plate again to compact this top layer and continue to smooth off. Continue until a there is a good finish ready for laying the putting turf.
- Roll out and cut the main putting surface to shape using special synthetic turf cutting tools.
- Cut the fringe grass material to roughly the same shape around the green.
- Match up the shape of the fringe with the green using the special turf cutting tools. Use seam roll tape and glue on the joints of both surfaces to adhere them together and to the base.
- Depending on the surrounding landscape, you have various options available to finish off and blend the outer edge of the fringe into its natural environment.
- Filled Greens (Target Greens) – the procedure above is the same when we install a filled green but additional work is then required to evenly distribute sand using a mortised brushing machine to a specific level before rolling the green to create a bent grass effect. A special quartz sand should be used to stop the sand from compacting over a period of time.
